Athziri, a passionate lighting designer originating from El Paso, Texas—a vibrant border sister city adjacent to Juarez, Mexico—brings a unique cultural perspective to her work. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrated in Lighting Design. During her time there, she designed for numerous theater, musicals and dance productions, including the mesmerizing Tommy, Monsters We Create, and the acclaimed main stage production of Bless Me, Ultima. Her collaborative spirit is evident in her numerous assistant roles on a variety of productions and projects, always bringing creativity and precision to every endeavor.
Athziri’s professional journey took her to Baltimore where she worked as a lighting engineer for The Fillmore and continued to develop her skills in Film creating various projects with MOON Collective. Athziri has also explored other areas of design, including makeup and costume design, as well as sound design, further broadening her artistic skill set. Additionally, she has created various zines in collaboration with other artists and social media content, demonstrating her versatility and passion for all forms of creative expression. Currently based in Los Angeles, she continues to expand her artistic horizons, designing for the SheLA Arts Theater Festival and the Choreographer Collection Los Angeles. With a deep-rooted love for the arts she grew up with, Athziri is eager to continue evolving as a designer, seeking to find her niche and make a lasting impact in the world of lighting design. She hopes to bring the arts to low-income communities, believing that art should be a collaboration accessible to all. Athziri is committed to continuing her work in community outreach, striving to make the arts a vital and inclusive part of every community she touches. ![]()
